Sanderien Verstappen is a postdoctoral researcher in the Anthropology of Modern South Asia at LIAS. Her postdoctoral project at LIAS is part of the AMT-funded pilot project ‘Postcolonial Displacements’, to develop new research and teaching curriculum at Leiden University at the intersection of Anthropology and Area Studies. She organises a conference on ‘Modalities of Displacement’ (in June 2018) and teaches the course ‘Displacement and Development: Anthropological Perspectives on South Asia’. She is also a fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies, where she works on a book, ‘Rerouting Relations’, on mobilities of Gujarati Muslims in India and abroad.
