Roukayya Oueslati MSc MA is a Health Scientist, Arabist and scholar in Religious Studies.  Her expertise is on the intersection between religion, medical sciences and migration. 

Currently, she is a lecturer and staff member of the Leiden Islam Academy (LIA). At the Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC) she conducts research on palliative care for non-western migrants in collaboration with Pharos.

She obtained a Bachelor degree in Arabic Language and Culture ( cum laude) and a Research Master degree in Religious Studies ( cum laude), both at Leiden University. Her thesis was about the development of religious opinions ( fatwas) regarding organ donation.

Afterwards, she obtained a Bachelor and Master degree in Health Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam specializing in Prevention and Public Health. She researched during several internships the role of religion in antenatal screening tests and the participation of Turkish and Moroccan immigrants in health checks as well as their uptake of behavioral change in case of an unhealthy lifestyle.

During the course Health Psychology she received an award for developing a culturally sensitive stigma reducing intervention programme for HIV positive people from Africa and the Caribbean, and in 2009 she was nominated for the ECHO award.  


She currently conducts research on palliative care for non-western migrants in collaboration with Pharos
