Rogier Feis studied Medicine in Leiden and graduated in 2016. For his scientific internship, he spent eight months at the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain, where he started research in neuroradiology. In 2017, he continued his research as a PhD student at the LUMC and the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

His research is focused on early diagnostics of frontotemporal dementia, using MRI and machine learning. In this project, Rogier combines his clinical medical knowledge, neuroradiological research skills, and the statistical expertise of his colleagues at the Methods and Statistics department to apply machine learning methods on MRI scans of the brain in subjects with a genetic dementia risk. In genetic frontotemporal dementia families, roughly half of the family members have a mutation that causes frontotemporal dementia. By researching these mutation carriers before symptoms develop, we aim to recognise the earliest disease-related changes with MRI.
