René Orij is Assistant Professor at Leiden Law School, Institute for Tax Law and Economics, Department of Business Studies.
René Orij is a business lecturer and researcher. He teaches financial accounting, corporate finance and entrepreneurship classes.
His main research interests are related to the business-society link. How do business behave, especially what do they report? How does the institutional environment affect businesses?
Before joining Leiden University was a lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Hogeschool Inholland (university for professional education) in Amsterdam/Diemen from 2002 to 2004.
From 1999 to 2001 he was an advisor and trainer for SNV with the Vietnamese Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development in Dong Hoi (Vietnam).
Orij worked as a Credit risk manager with Deutsche Bank, both in Cologne (Germany), Luxemburg (Luxemburg) and Amsterdam from 1992 to 1999.

On 14 March 2012 Orij defended his PhD dissertation with the title ‘Societal Determinants of Corporate Social Disclosures’.
His further research focuses on the business-society link, especially institutional effects on businesses; informal, or, when formal these effects relate to laws and regulations.
