Research

Rebecca J. Henzel (1989) is Post-Doc in the VICI-project Innovating Objects. The Impact of Global Connections and the Formation of the Roman Empire (ca. 200 –30 BC) directed by Prof. Miguel John Versluys. She is currently working on the impact of "foreign" objects on Roman society.

Curriculum Vitae

Rebecca holds a PhD (2019) in Classical Archaeology from the Freie Universität Berlin, after studying in Würzburg, Rome and Berlin. In her PhD thesis she investigated the display of Honorary statues in public space in Sicily from the Hellenistic to the Late antique period. The research was funded by the TOPOI Excellencecluster and the Berlin Graduate School of ancient studies with a three year scholarship.

During her PhD she was Academic visitor and Associate member of Merton College in Oxford, funded by TOPOI and DAAD and part of the "Landscape Archaeology and Architecture" program of the Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies. Rebecca was part of several excavation projects in Germany, Greece and Italy. Furthermore she has co-organized two international conferences (Olympia: Neue Forschungen und Fragestellungen, Cityscapes of Hellenistic Sicily: A Reassessment).
