Research

My field of expertise is mainly related to LiDAR and its use for archaeological purposes. My long experience using LiDAR for mapping, documenting, and monitoring cultural heritage in Nordic environments, also includes cross-disciplinary research and methods development. Thus, my research focus has for more than 15 years mainly been on LiDAR employment as a method in archaeology for surveying, mapping, monitoring, and interpreting archaeological features and monuments on a landscape scale. This has led to several published articles in international journals and anthologies. I have been in charge of research projects financed by the Norwegian Research Council and also participated in international research projects which has led to the establishment of an international network within remote sensing. In recent years I have gained a certain interest in early tar production as a supplement to my LiDAR research.

Curriculum vitae

From February 2023 I start my visit as a guest researcher at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University where I will be affiliated with the Department of Archaeological Sciences until June this year. This is a part of my one-year research sabbatical that also has brought me to Uppsala University in Sweden where I spent the autumn semester of 2022. With a cand.phil. in Nordic prehistorical archaeology from the University of Aarhus in Denmark and PhD by portfolio from 2006 I have acted as a project manager, cultural heritage management consultant, researcher, senior researcher and have since 2016 been an associate professor at NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology where I am affiliated to the Department of archaeology and cultural history. From 1999 to 2016 I had a researcher position at NIKU - Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage an independent research foundation. Prior to that, I worked as a cultural resource management consultant at Vestfold County Council.
