Short CV

Nikki Nibbering graduated from Leiden University with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology (2014). In 2016 she graduated with a research master’s degree in Clinical- and Health Psychology. After graduation, she worked as a research assistant studying the neurobiology of fatherhood. Thereafter, in 2017, she assisted with the data collection in a longitudinal twin-study (SamenUniek). At the same time, she worked as a lecturer, teaching students at the institute of Education and Child Studies and the Methodology and Statistics unit of the Psychology. In 2018, she started her PhD research at the department of Clinical Neurodevelopmental Sciences, under supervision of Prof. Maretha de Jonge, Prof. Hanna Swaab and Dr. Sophie van Rijn. 

Within her PhD project, called ‘Project Omilía’, Nikki focuses on neurocognitive and biological mechanisms underlying selective mutism. She aims to contribute to a better understanding of self-regulation in young children with selective mutism. 

In addition to her work as a PhD student, Nikki works as an independent researcher at the Research Consultancy Center (RCC) at the department of radiology, of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC).
