Pituitary conditions

Rare conditions, for example pituitary diseases are usually treated by an expertise center, with available multidisciplinary care and complex interventions. To share expertise, recently European reference centers were installed, e.g. Endo-ERN. Regional and national collaboration is increasingly important to bring expertise to all patients, while care is provided close by. The chair is dedicated to innovation of multidisciplinary care, education and research in the field of pituitary conditions.

Academic career

The PhD thesis defence, titled Acromegaly, treatment and follow-up, The Leiden Studies was on 2nd november 2005 (with honour). At the department we conduct research on the long term follow-up of pituitary conditions, both functioning and non-functioning tumors. A research line addressed acromegaly and joint pathology. Another research line addressed neuropsychological consequences of endocrine dysfunction, with development of a bother and need questionnaire for pituitary disease and a psychosocial education program.  Research on value based health care and outcome parameters is being carried out.  The main project is the national study on the best treatment for prolactinoma.

Prizes and honourable appointments

Research was funded by ZonMW, Veni grant, Clinical Fellows grant.
From 2017 onwards I am chair of the main thematic group Pituitary within the EndoERN, the European Reference Network for rare endocrine conditions.
