Professional Experience
Milagros received her BSc degree in Environmental Sciences in 2012 at the University of Barcelona and her MSc degree in Ecology in 2013 at the same university. She conducted her Bachelor thesis at Lund University where she studied the effects of crop covers and agricultural practices on soil ecosystem services with special emphasis on microbial community.
In January 2017 she joined the Conservation Biology department of CML to start her PhD research on global distribution patterns of mycorrhizas.
Research topic
Milagros PhD research project aims to understand the role of mycorrhizal fungi on global and regional carbon cycle. To pursue this goal, she will investigate the global distribution patterns of different types of mycorrhizal fungi (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi and Ectomycorrhizal fungi), the environmental and ecological drivers of these patterns and the implications on biogeochemical cycles.
