Mayke Vereijken is a researcher and educational adviser.
After finishing her master’s degree in Educational Sciences at Radboud University, she went on working as an educational consultant in medical education. Working in this role has strengthened her interest in educational research. Currently, she is finalizing her PhD-dissertation on student engagement in research in medical education. She currently works as a researcher and educational consultant at ICLON, Leiden University Graduate School of Teaching.
Her research interest focuses on the role of research in teaching aimed to promote student learning. The studies presented in her thesis focus on student beliefs and perceptions of research in teaching in relation to the study programme. She received a student research award for her work on thesis supervision from the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia. Currently, she focuses on teacher professional development in inquiry-based teaching.
In her role as an educational consultant she is a trainer in professional development activities at Leiden University. Training courses focus on supervising thesis students and large and small group teaching. Furthermore she has taught presentation skills to students and supervised undergraduates’ and student-teachers’ research projects.
