Graduated in Indian and Iranian languages and cultures, Leiden University (1983); defended PhD thesis ( The Tantri reliefs on ancient Javanese candi) at Leiden University (1990)

1989-1992: Assistant-curator for Southeast Asia, Leiden University Library (5/10)

1991-2000: Lecturer, first in Cultural studies and then in Art and material culture at the Department of Languages and Cultures of Southeast Asia and Oceania, Leiden University (5/10) (detached as Post-doc researcher, International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden, 1994-1996)
