Mariëlle Prevoo graduated with distinction from the bachelor Logopaedics at Hogeschool Zuyd Heerlen in 2007, and graduated from the master Health Education and Promotion at Maastricht University in 2008. After her graduation Mariëlle worked as a speech-language therapist. In 2009, she started her PhD research at the Forensic Family and Youth Care Studies programme group, Leiden University, where she was also involved in teaching activities. In September and October 2014, Mariëlle was a visiting scholar at the Center for Research on Culture, Development and Education (CRCDE), New York University. Currently, Mariëlle is a postdoc in the research cluster Child maltreatment .
Mariëlle Prevoo’s research focuses on child and parent language and its relation to the family context in general and parenting in particular. She is currently involved in projects on the role of household chaos in child maltreatment, and on resilience among families in various cultures living under adverse circumstances.
