Since February 2016, Maral Darouei is a promovendus at the department of Business studies at the Faculty of Law.

In her research, Darouei focuses on the development of wireless technology and its implications for how, when and where work is done, also known as new ways of organising work. She is mostly interested in the effect that flexible working arrangements (FWA's) have on employees' non-work domain. To that end, Darouei looks into today's “always on” culture, organisational availability expectations and its psychological toll on employees. Moreover, she looks into the implications that FWA's have on the perception of the ''ideal worker’’.

Research questions that are relevant in her field:  What is the effect of work tele-pressure on recovery processes at home? Is it more difficult for flexible workers to disconnect compared to non-flexible workers? Are flexible workers disadvantaged through the promotion process? Does flexible working limit one's ability to develop the necessary networks because of their choice to work flexibly? In summary, Darouei looks into FWA’s, psychological detachment, recovery processes at home, opportunities for promotion, FWA's and gender differences.

Darouei graduated Cum Laude from Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University obtaining an MSc in Human Resources Management. She obtained her BSc in International Business Administration at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. As a result of her international curiosity, she attended the State University of New York at Buffalo for six months in the last year of her Bachelor studies.
