Léjon Saarloos is a PhD-student in Herman Paul's project 'The Scholarly Self: Character, Habit and Virtue in the Humanities, 1860-1930'. Within this project, he works on the subproject 'Scholarly Selves: How to Discipline One’s Body, Heart, and Mind'. His research engages a large number of lengthy scholarly obituaries to examine how scholars around 1900 envisioned the disciplining of their bodies, hearts, and minds through the acquisition of relevant habits, virtues, and character traits.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Education at Hogeschool Rotterdam in 2009, Léjon studied History (BA) and Cultural History (MA) at Utrecht University. He graduated cum laude from the latter in 2013.
