Short bio

Kees Goudswaard is Professor of Economics (0 fte) and Professor of Social Security (0,2 fte, a chair supported by Instituut Gak) at the Law School, Leiden University. His research areas are: social policy, pensions and public finance.

Goudswaard has been director of several research programs on social security, for which he received grants of approximately 4 million euros. At the moment he supervises a project on self-reliance and social protection, funded by Instituut Gak. In recent years he has done much research on pensions, as a fellow of Netspar, Tilburg University.

He has hold several advisory and supervisory positions. Until 2020 he was a member of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Central Bank. For 14 years he has been a crown-appointed member of the Social and Economic Council. He was chairman of two committees that have advised the government on the future of the pension system. 

At the moment Goudswaard is supervisor of two large pension funds. He is chairman of the Supervisory Board of Pensioenfonds Horeca en Catering and member of the Supervisory Board of Pensioenfonds Zorg en Welzijn. Also, he is vice chairman of the board of Insituut Gak, a foundation that supports research and projects on social security and labour market.
