My research interests lie in semantic data and knowledge integration for biomedical data science, with a  particular focus on FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) data and reproducible research. I lead the Life Science Semantics Group at LIACS and I lead the Data and Analysis work in the national research infrastructure, NL-Bioimaging

I was involved in defining the FAIR Principles and I continue to work on methods for developing and exploiting FAIR data. We use ontologies and semantic web approaches for (semi)-automatic FAIR data generation and integration with AI analysis workflows. We work across multiple research communities, including bioimaging, systems biology and biomedicine.
