The PhD research focuses on the documentation and analysis of Ayuuk (Mixe) narratives and ceremonial discourse, related to the Mesoamerican calendar and divination.
The main purpose of this project is to describe the conceptualization of space and time in the Ayuuk culture, which is associated with the meteorological / astronomical phenomena, animal behavior and agricultural work. This in the wider context of a general understanding Ayuuk religion and ritualism. One of the aims is to compare the present-day traditional worldview with the symbolism of the precolonial Mesoamerican codices.
