Josh Walmsley is a course instructor in the programme International Relations and Organisations. In 2017 he graduated with distinction from the programme MSc Conflict Resolution and Governance at the University of Amsterdam’s Department of Political Science. He also holds a BA in American and Canadian Studies, with first-class honours, from the University of Birmingham.
His current research interests include critical approaches to security in International Relations, with a particular focus on counter-extremism, surveillance, and intelligence-gathering practices and their interaction with the public sector. His MSc thesis explored the impact of counter-radicalisation policy on autonomous educational practices on the front-line of the UK education sector. In May 2018, alongside Dr Francesco Ragazzi, he co-authored a report for the European Parliamentary Research Service analysing EU Member States’ approaches to “returning foreign fighters.”
He has four years of experience as an educational practitioner in various capacities, including academic mentoring and language instruction.
