Jonathan Crock is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies at Leiden University. He is researching the right to democracy in international law under the supervision of Professor William Schabas. He holds a master's degree in international human rights law from the University of Oxford.

His research pieces together democratic rights to take part in decision-making that are fragmented in international law across a wide range of legal fields—horizontally from civil and political rights to economic, social, and cultural rights, to gender rights, racial rights, labour law, disability law, economic law, environmental law, and beyond—and vertically from local to national, regional, and global governance. His research includes a focus on the increased use of direct democracy mechanisms in state practice and new legal developments in rights of economic democracy, workplace democracy, and what Thomas Piketty calls "democratic control of capital."

Jonathan Crock's previous experience in law and human rights research and policy includes serving in the U.S. Department of State's Office of War Crimes Issues, the U.S. Institute of Peace, the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and the Supreme Court of the United States.
