Working title: ’Environmental refugees. Forgotten migrants in search for protection'. Dual PhD candidate at Leiden University Dual PhD Centre.
Jolanda van der Vliet is employed as a lecturer International Law and Migration Law at the Hague University of Applied Sciences since September 2011. She is also a member of the research group International Peace, Justice and Security led by prof. dr. Ir. J.J.C. Voorhoeve.
Her research focusses on international legal protection possibilities for environmentally forced migration, both internal and cross-border migration. The research is built on three approaches: the ‘rights-based approach’, the ‘security approach’ and the ‘responsibility approach’. These approaches are studied on their intrinsic value to offer protection to subgroups of environmental refugees and on their ability to mutually reinforce each other.
