Radiology

The rapid advancement of various non-destructive radiological techniques allowing the construction of a virtual copy of a patient is fascinating. We are at the beginning of our ultimate achievement. Using techniques such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine we will be able, within seconds to minutes, to construct this virtual copy of man, displaying morphology and function relative to disease up to molecular levels. Subsequently, time consuming, computer aided analysis and even virtual experimental treatment can be performed without bothering the patient. Thus we can disconnect the classical trias of object, location and time.

The title of his inaugural lecture was 'De dynamiek van de diagnostiek'.
