Dr. J. Hillgärtner

Jan Hillgärtner is lecturer of German at Leiden University. His work focusses on the spread of the newspaper in seventeenth-century Germany and modes of reporting in the periodical press, literary fame and its interplay with book advertisements and reviews in the press of the eighteenth century. Before obtaining his PhD in modern history from the University of St Andrews, he graduated from the University of Marburg with a BA in German Studies and an MA in Book Studies from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He is currently working on a bibliography of German newspapers printed between 1605 and 1650.
