Ivan Bakalov is a Lecturer at the Institute of Political Science.
Ivan Bakalov acquired his PhD from the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences in 2020. Subsequently, he held a visiting postdoc position (DAAD grant) at the University of Vienna and taught at the University of National and World Economy, Sofia and at Jacobs University, Bremen.
The thematic focus of his research is on studying the dynamics of power in world politics from a vantage point combining theoretical perspectives from international relations (IR) and international political economy (IPE). Empirically, he specializes in the study of Eastern European transnational politics with a particular focus on Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus. Methodologically, he is interested in the application and development of process tracing.
