As an educational adviser and trainer Heleen advises and inspires teachers how to design their courses, teach in practice and supervise thesis students. Heleen Verkiel studied Social Geography (1986-1988) at the University of Utrecht; after that she studied at the Marnix Academy PABO in Utrecht (1988-1992).

In 2013 she was in training to become an educational actress. She worked for 7 years (1992-1999) as a primary school teacher. After that she worked for several (non) profit organizations.
