Heather Peterson is a PhD candidate at Leiden University.  She is writing her dissertation on the history of global power shifts over the long durée.  

Heather has over 15 years of experience in U.S. defense policy as both a practitioner and a scholar.  She spent her formative years in the Pentagon working on a range of defense policy issues including peacekeeping, counterinsurgency, interagency planning, and strategy.  She left the Pentagon to move to her home state of California and a job at the RAND Corporation.  Her research at RAND focused primarily on U.S. defense planning and security cooperation with foreign militaries.

Heather has a Master’s in Public Administration and a MA in International Relations from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.
