Director of education / professor Laboratory Astrophysics
Harold Linnartz is Professor of Laboratory Astrophysics at the Leiden Observatory. He is the Director of the Sackler Laboratory where physical methods are used to answer chemical questions of astronomical interest. In addition, he is the Director of Education for the Astronomy bachelor's and master's programmes. As such, Harold is part of the Education Office Astronomy.
Harold Linnartz researches the chemical reactions that take place around stars. In spite of the temperatures, strong radiation fields and low densities, complex molecules are formed there. In the lab Linnartz mimics processes that may be able to explain the presence of the molecules that have been observed in space.
