Gaélane is a guest researcher at the Institute of Political Science.
Gaélane Wolff is a PhD fellow in political science at the University of Geneva. She is also a teacher at the University of Geneva and the Global Studies Institute for the bachelor's degree in international relations. This semester she will be a guest researcher at Leiden University.
Gaélane's doctoral research focuses on post-natural disaster management by the philanthropic sector and the link between the private sector and humanitarian aid. More specifically, she is interested in the actions of key actors in humanitarian aid and development — such as private foundations — in many countries such as Haiti, Malawi and the Philippines. Her research is based on qualitative and mixed methods, like document analysis, discourse analysis, as well as interviews and observations.
For the past 3 years and half, she has been teaching international relations (disaster management, humanitarian aid and international environmental policies) as well as research methods to 2nd and 3rd year bachelor's students and some master’s students in political science at the University of Geneva.
Gaélane specializes in international environmental policies, risk and disaster management as well as gender studies. Indeed, in the field of international relations studies, there is no research focusing on the interaction between private foundations and the private sector in post-disaster humanitarian and state management. In addition, she specializes in the themes of resilience, adaptation and micro- insurance, three key concepts for understanding and improving development and humanitarian aid.
Gaélane holds a Master degree in Political Sciences and Globalisation from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland (2019), a Master degree in Political and Social Sciences from Science Po Strasbourg, France (2017), and a Bachelor degree in Sociology at the University of Strasbourg, France (2016).
