Evy van Berlo
Evy van Berlo is a PhD candidate at the Cognitive Psychology section and the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition under the supervision of Dr. Mariska Kret. During her project she will study the evolutionary origins of emotion perception and empathy humans and their closest living relatives, the great apes.
PhD student Evy van Berlo about her new research project with the Bonobo:
She conducts most of her work at primate park Apenheul, where she tests apes on tasks such as the emotional dot-probe paradigm and the implicit association test. She uses eye-tracking and thermal imaging technology to get more insight into the evolutionary roots of emotions and their expressions, and how an ingroup/outgroup distinction affects these processes.
