Professional Experience
Elizabeth Migoni is a PhD candidate working on the connection of Ecosystem Services and Life Cycle Assessment. A biologist by training, Elizabeth specialized on molecular biology at the department of Immunology during her bachelor studies. She worked as a research intern in the development of genetically modified microalgae for the production of vaccines and biofuels, and later on, in the development of a fast H1N1 Flue test with llama antibodies. Her studies were complemented by extensive volunteer work in multidisciplinary fields, where she had the opportunity to work for a summer at the Physical Oceanographic department at CICESE research center, on the numerical modeling of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Her experience working at a non-profit foundation, where she learned about permaculture and communities resilience, was her first approach to basic and fundamental concepts of sustainability.
She obtained a national Science and Engineering scholarship by the Mexican government for graduate studies abroad, and moved to The Netherlands in 2015 to conduct her master studies on the program of Industrial Ecology. During her master studies she worked as well on the sustainability department of TU Delft as a student assistant, working on the integration of sustainability into education and everyday life student activities, as well as bridging the gap between the student community and campus management to promote sustainable initiatives.
She conducted her master thesis project on the impact characterisation of land use on ecosystem services for Life Cycle Assessment. Once graduated, she has started her PhD studies on further exploring the potential of the ecosystem services concept and its applicability in LCA studies.
Research topic
Linking the concept of ecosystem services with Life Cycle Assessment, by identifying potential areas of improvement in LCA, determining key requirements of potential Ecosystem indicators and tackling spatial differentiation issues.
