Dirk-Jan List is a dual PhD candidate at Leiden University Dual PhD Centre. Working title: ‘The importance of the fashion of the steel crinoline cage for the emergence of the mechanized and standardized confection industry.’

Dirk-Jan List studied Art History and Archeology at Leiden University. He had museology as a secondary subject and also obtained the teaching qualification first degree. The doctoral thesis dealt with the theme 'The Crinoline and Bustle in the Netherlands (1857-1878).'
Dirk-Jan is almost 30 years working as a museum curator, specializing in heritage and textiles. He worked for example at the Historisch Museum Ede as director / curator (13 years) and the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam as historical curator (10 years). Dirk-Jan is also working as chairman (tafelheer) of the textile knowledge group (Textiel schouw) of the Amsterdam Museum. He is a collector of antique textiles.
