Carlos Calleja is a Research Assistant at eLaw - Center for Law and Digital Technologies at Leiden University. He investigates the legal and regulatory aspects of robot and AI technologies, focusing on wearable robots and verification and validation methods.

Previously, he was part of the Vulnerabilities in the Robot Society (VIROS) project at the University of Oslo. He drafted his master's thesis on the topic of criminal liability for the harms of robotic and artificial intelligence systems. Carlos holds a master's degree (M.Phil) in Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Oslo and an LL.B from the Catholic University Andres Bello (UCAB). Carlos is also a qualified lawyer in Venezuela.

From October 2021, Carlos will be working as a research assistant with Dr E. Fosch-Villaronga on PROPELLING (European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, Open Call issued and executed under Project EUROBENCH (grant agreement No. 779963). The project investigates how robot testing facilities could help optimize the regulation for robots.
