Beatrijs Jue-Volker (1985) joined the Institute of Criminal Law and Criminology in August 2016. In June 2009 she graduated with honors from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam with a master in criminal justice. After graduating she worked at the Erasmus University as an academic lecturer and researcher. From 2014 to 2015 Beatrijs was an editor for Proces tijdschrift voor de strafrechtspleging (magazine for criminal justice). In 2015 she worked at the lawfirm Ten Holter Noordam advocaten in Rotterdam at the department of administrative and environmental Law.

Beatrijs is currently finalizing her dissertation. The central problem of her thesis focuses on the expansion of legal opportunities to impose a ban to visit a certain area or to impose a restriction to reside at a certain place. This expansion has resulted in a great variety and diversity of opportunities to impose such a ban or restriction and can be seen in both criminal and administrative law, but also in civil law, where existing resources are used creatively to exclude someone from a certain area. In her thesis all different possibilities to impose a ban to visit a certain place are described with a focus on issues such as distribution of competences and enforcement. The results of the research will be evaluated within a constitutional framework, while certain treaty rights are of great importance as well. The synthesis of the research relates to whether the present system, with its variety of opportunities to impose a ban to visit a certain area, without changes, is sustainable or needs adjustment. In 2015, Beatrijs has written a preliminary report (preadvies) on this subject for de Jonge Vereniging voor Bestuursrecht (VAR).
