My research focuses on indigenous place-names of the Andes deriving from Quechuan, Aymaran, as well as other (extinct) languages. I am working on a database to record linguistic properties of place-names, using existing data sets, historical maps, archival records, as well as field surveys as data sources. This database will help to investigate the linguistic past of the region, in particular regarding the (former) geographic distributions of languages. The research is part of the project The Linguistic Past of Mesoamerica and the Andes.
