Arash Pourebrahimi Andouhjerdi is a Ph.D. candidate and Lecturer (Tutor) at the Leiden University Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA). His dissertation, supervised by Prof. Madeleine Hosli and Dr. Jaroslaw Kantorowicz, focuses on legislative decision-making in the European Union, notably dynamics of bargaining among the member states in the Council of the European Union.

Arash is conducting his PhD research at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA). He applies quantitative research methods and game theory to examine legislative decision-making in the European Union (EU). His research focuses on the dynamics of collective decision-making between and within European institutions such as the Council of the EU, the European Commission and the European Parliament. Moreover, Arash studies member states’ voting behavior in the Council of the EU. His PhD project is supervised by Prof. Madeleine Hosli and Dr. Jaroslaw Kantorowicz.

Arash has been a visiting fellow at Harvard University’s Department of Government, where Prof. Peter Hall was his supervisor. He has also been involved in different research projects at institutions such as the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard University (led by Prof. Gary King), the Princeton University Iran Data Portal, the University of California, Los Angeles, and Syracuse University. Arash has presented his papers at different conferences such as annual meetings of the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) and the Public Choice Society.

Prior academic education

In terms of prior academic education, Arash holds a M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Tehran (Kish International Campus) and a MPhil in Economics from the City University of New York where he continues investigating developments in the sovereign bonds market. Arash has taught undergraduate courses including Introduction to Statistics, and Introduction to Econometrics, Introduction to Macroeconomics, and Introduction to Microeconomics at the City University of New York (Queens College, Brooklyn College, and the College of Staten Island). In addition, Arash supervised bachelor theses at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Management of International Social Challenges program. He has also been a Tutor for the for MSc International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD) program, teaching quantitative research methods.
