Annie Trevenen-Jones lectures at Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) where she continues to blend her experience of international sustainable development work with contributions to knowledge and skills in academia. She is interested in sustainable development and ecological relations i.e. people's everyday perceptions and practices of themselves and the non-human environment. Specifically, her interests focus on ecological identity, zero poverty, realizing food security for all as well as reimagining waste as resource within the circular economy. Her present research study, as part of a knowledge partnership, supported by an award from the Central Innovation District in The Hague, concerns food waste within the frame of realising smart, sustainable and inclusive cities of the future.

Trevenen-Jones received her doctorate in public understanding of science and communication from the Open University UK. Supported by a scholarship from the Canon Collins Trust she completed a Master's of Science in environment and development at Imperial College, London University. Prior to which she had completed a degree in agriculture and field experience in rural and displaced communities in South Africa and Mozambique.
Before joining LUC, Trevenen-Jones advised legislatures in South Africa regards poverty eradication and economic growth and development public policy, legislation and programmes. She also worked with the Centre for Education in Economics and Finance.Africa (CEEF.Africa) on their socio-economic transformation through leadership investment. A large part of which involved the Centre's education facilitatory relationship with the School of Oriental and African Studies (London University) together with elected and appointed leadership officials, primarily, in the South African government. At LUC, she teaches courses as part of the Governance, Economics and Development and Earth, Energy and Sustainability programmes.
