Short CV

Anne Cuperus is a lecturer in neuropsychology at the Department of Health, Medical and Neuropsychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University. He obtained his PhD in this department, after completing an MSc in Clinical Neuropsychology and an LLM in Private Law at Utrecht University. For a number of years, Anne also worked as a psychologist and at an IT company where, among other things, the applications for his research were developed.

Research

Anne’s main research interests lie at the intersection of healthcare and IT. In 2019, he obtained his PhD at the department where he now teaches, based on his thesis entitled “Virtual experience, real impact: The influence of virtual reality on memory and behaviour.” He investigated how VR can be applied in healthcare by exploring two novel VR paradigms:

  • The use of VR to simulate exposure to psychological trauma in healthy individuals for research purposes.
  • The use of VR to affect physical activity by means of a novel kind of perceptual illusion.
