As of 1 November 2016 Anke van der Hoeven is working at the Institute of  Criminal Law and Criminology and the Department of Labour Law and Social Security as a PhD candidate. After she graduated in Antillean and Dutch Law she started working as a judges clerk at the courts of Amsterdam and The Hague. She continued her career at the office of the Nationale ombudsman where she worked as a researcher.  She focused on  complaints filed by civilians against the police and the public prosecutor. In 2011 she started as a full time student of Criminology which resulted in a master Forensic Criminology (2014) and a master Criminal Justice (2015).  In 2015 and 2016 she worked as a legal advisor at the Dutch Council for Refugees where she worked with undocumented immigrants. She also participated in a research project initiated by NSCR regarding Caribbean women and crime. Until December 2016 she was a member of the Monitoring Committee of Penitentiary Rotterdam, location De Schie. 

Research

The research of Anke van der Hoeven focuses on labour exploitation and the hiring of immigrants using legal and semi-legal (bogus)constructions in order to circumvent Dutch labour law standards and collective labour agreements. In 2016 she published about the access to legal counsel of detained immigrants.

Titel research: (Bogus)constructions in employment relations under which intra-EU immigrants work in the Netherlands.

Teaching

In the year 2016-2017 she teaches the seminar Criminology for law students.
