Research
This PhD research is funded by the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (Mexico) and carried out at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University, in connection with the project 'Time in Intercultural Context: The Indigenous Calendars of Mexico and Guatemala' (which is directed by Prof.Dr. Maarten E.R.G.N. Jansen and receives financial support from the European Research Council through ERC Advanced Grant No: 295434).
The PhD research focuses on the 'Writing and Iconography of Western Oaxaca, Mexico, between 500 B.C. and A.D. 900'.
The dissertation interprets the most important reliefs and inscriptions as well as monuments and decorated ceramics of the Preclassic and Classic periods, contributing to a better understanding of the development of artistic themes and historical register, while also analyzing continuities and changes in the graphic system itself.
