Andreas Nicolas Häuselmann is an external PhD candidate at eLaw, Center for Law and Digital Technologies at Leiden University, since October 2018. He is a Senior Legal Adviser for Privacy and Cybersecurity at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek N.V. based in Amsterdam. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Information and Communication Technology Law from the University of Oslo and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Information Technology and Intellectual Property Law from the Leibniz University Hannover.

Research
It is commonly understood that any disruptive technology entails risks and complex policy challenges. This applies in particular to Artificial Intelligence (AI), privacy and data protection law. Andreas’ research focuses on the actual problems that some types of AI cause or (in the future) may cause in the context of the current relevant EU legal framework. The developments in AI also raise important ethical questions, such as issues regarding autonomy and equality. Technological concepts (e.g. algorithmic privacy) may also contribute to the protection of privacy and personal data in a world full of AI. Hence, the research aims to propose ideas how to design the future EU legal framework, considering the incompatibilities of the current legal framework as well as the relevant ethical and technological aspects.
