Short CV

Andrea Spruijt works as a postdoctoral researcher at the department of Clinical Neurodevelopmental Sciences. She particularly focuses on Selective Mutism research. She also works as a senior researcher at Yulius Academy focusing on Special Education research, associated with the Educational Expertise Center.

Andrea Spruijt graduated in Education and Child studies (Clinical Child and Adolescent studies) at Leiden University. For her bachelor’s degree she researched language acquisition in young children as part of the minor ‘Brain and Cognition’ at the LUMC. In 2012 she completed the Research Master programme ‘Developmental Psychopathology in Education and Child Studies’ and worked as a research assistant on neuropsychological functioning in children with Klinefelter Syndrome. She completed her internship at the Leiden University  Ambulatorium, with developmental disorders as field of expertise. Here she built up expertise in conducting neuropsychological diagnostics. 

In 2019 she completed her PhD research with the dissertation ‘Curious Minds: Stimulating parent-child interaction to foster neurocognitive functioning in four- to eight-year-olds.’ She particularly focused on parent-child interaction, including questioning style, in relation to executive and social functioning in school-aged children. Furthermore, she evaluated a compact educational parent program aimed at stimulating self-regulation in children.
