Alexandra Marques is an interdisciplinary researcher interested in understanding the impacts of human activities on the environment and how to tackle them. She has used environmental input-output analysis to understand how consumption patterns drive biodiversity loss and carbon emissions.

Alexandra Marques is an interdisciplinary researcher interested in understanding the impacts of human activities on the environment and how to tackle them. She has used environmental input-output analysis to understand how consumption patterns drive biodiversity loss and carbon emissions.

Alexandra is a lead author of the Regional Assessment for Europe and Central Asia of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). She was also a lead author of the report “Progress towards the Aichi Biodiversity Targets: An assessment of biodiversity trends, policy scenarios and key actions” for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

She holds a PhD in Sustainable Energy Systems from Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa. Before joining CML, Alexandra was a postdoctoral researcher in the Biodiversity Conservation group at the German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv).

Since February 2016 Alexandra Marques is an Assistant Professor at CML’s  Industrial Ecology department.
