In 2009 I obtained my PhD degree on my thesis “Binge or Control? Assessment of the validity, treatment and underlying mechanisms of Binge Eating Disorder (Leiden University).Since then I am working as a senior researcher at GGZ Rivierduinen Eating Disorders Ursula. The focus of my research is on investigating the effectiveness of treatments for eating disorders. Further, I am interested in the underlying mechanisms of binge eating. In experimental studies I try to unravel the association between binge eating and negative emotions. In 2016 I have started at the department Clinical Psychology as a lecturer. Currently, I am the coordinator of the master course 'Transdiagnostic approach to eating disorders'.
I conducted a randomized controlled trial (rct) in which the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was investigated in patients with Binge Eating Disorder. After out first clinical trial, a second study (rct) investigating Cognitive Remediation Therapy (CRT) in severe eating disorder patients (mainly anorexia nervosa). CRT improves the awareness of ongoing thinking processes. Together with Jiska Aardoom (PhD-student) I conducted a RCT in which we compared an E-health intervention with automatic feedback with or without consultation of a psychologist compared to a waiting list. Recently we started a second study investigating the effectiveness of Feedback and the added value of support by expert patients for which we received a ZonMw grant.
