Aleksandre received his BSc degree in Biology at the Tbilisi State University in 2011 and his MSc degree in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich in 2013.

Professional experience

Aleksandre received his BSc degree in Biology at the Tbilisi State University in 2011 and his MSc degree in Evolution, Ecology and Systematics at the Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich in 2013.

After successful completion of his University studies, Aleksandre worked for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia as a Returning Expert of the CIM Program of the German Federal Employment Agency (2013-2015).  

Since 2015, Aleksandre is an Early State Researcher in the EU Horizon 2020 Pontocaspian Biodiversity Rise and Demise (PRIDE) Program, investigating effective outreach strategies in the Pontocaspian region. In 2015 he became a PhD student at the University of Amsterdam at the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics. In May 2018, he was transferred from the University of Amsterdam to the Leiden University and is currently a PhD researcher at the Conservation Biology department of CML.

Research topic

For his PhD, Aleksandre is researching the social network structure of stakeholder organisations in Romania and Ukraine as an example of EU vs. non-EU countries and the implications of network properties on Pontocaspian biodiversity conservation. Additionally, he is analyzing the environmental policy of Romania and Ukraine to identify the legal and policy frameworks that may help or hinder improved appreciation of Pontocaspian biota in the Black Sea and the Danube Delta.
