Aernout van Lynden is lecturer in journalism and war studies and a tutor. He is an Anglo-Dutch journalist who worked for over 20 years as a war correspondent in the Middle East and in the former Yugoslavia. He lived for four years in Beirut during the Lebanese civil war and covered the Iranian revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, Afghanistan (during the Soviet occupation), the Romanian revolution, the Gulf War of 1990-91, and the entire conflict in the former Yugoslavia from 1991 until 1999. Aernout has worked in newspapers (The Observer and the Washington Post), in radio (BBC) and for television (Sky News). Before coming to LUC he lectured for six years at the American University in Bulgaria, where he was the chair of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication. At LUC Aernout teaches courses in print and television journalism, as well as those related to war and totalitarianism.
