The presence of an extra X chromosome may profoundly affect cognitive and behavioural development, although to a variable degree. Language difficulties are typically found in boys and girls with an extra X chromosome.

Although many studies have reported specific language dysfunctions, the consequences of these impairments in terms of social development and risk for psychopathology, have received very little attention. This project was designed to provide in this.

This project focuses on the role of language in self-regulation skills, i.e. regulation of thought and behavior, as well as social adaptation, and the effect of dysfunctions in these areas on risk for psychopathology.
