Eurostat has assigned a project to TNO, CML, NTNU and Groningen University on the development of an environmentally extended supply- and use framework. The project has to support Eurostat’s work on the Data centres on Products and Resources.

This work is based on a broad convergence in view amongst scientists and experts in statistics about the following. Organising economic and environmental data in a so-called environmentally extended input-output framework provides one of the most powerful analytical tools for a sustainable product- and resource policy. Eurostat has already various building blocks available to build such an EE IO database.

Consequently, Eurostat wants to develop routines that enables Eurostat to combine the single country EE IO databases to a fully fledged EU EE IO table that can be used for operational analysis.

Combining environmental and economic data into an EE SUT system for Eurostat can be done in various ways. This project examines the best way to combine the environmental and economic data and create an operational system to do so, thereby supporting the delivery of data to the Data centres on Products and Resources.
