BA Spring Middle East Studies programme

Are you interested in the modern Middle East and would you like to dive into the fascinating culture?

In spring 2022, the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo offers a semester ‘Middle East Studies’ for bachelor and master students from the Humanities and the Social Sciences.

MA students can apply for the programme with permission from their departments and with different assessment criteria.

Programme description

This interdisciplinary semester programme will transform you from someone with a mere interest in the Middle East into a specialist of the region. The programme consists of 15 ECTS of content courses and 15 ECTS of Arabic language acquisition (with courses at both the beginning and more advanced levels).

The 2022 spring semester is from 30 January - 2 June 2021.

31 January: First day of classes
13-17 March: Alexandria trip
20 March: Classes resume
3-7 April: Mid-Semester Exam (Final exam for shot-programme students)
10 April: Classes resume
24 April - 7 May: Break (Easter, Sham el-Nessim and Eid al-Fitr)
8 May: Classes resume
22-26 May: STUVAC
30 May - 2 June: Final exams


All the courses included in this BA programme have been approved by the Board of Examiners and the Programme Committee of Leiden University.
