Alexey Boiarskyi appointed full professor

Theoretical physicist and cosmologist Alexey Boiarskyi has been appointed full professor per 1 October.

Alexey Boiarskyi

Boiarskyi combines particle physics with cosmology in his theoretical work, and is the initiator of SND@LHC, a neutrino detector that will be built near the Large Hadron Collider. This is the precursor of SHiP (‘Search for Hidden Particles’), a detector that will attempt to detect particles that make up the mysterious Dark Matter,  whose existence is inferred from astronomical observations.

‘Cosmology is an important area of research for LION, and Alexey Boiarskyi is one of the pillars in this effort’, says Jan Aarts, scientific director of the Leiden Institute of Physics. ‘He is a very creative scientist, who ties us in with both the world of astronomy and the world of particle physics. With that, he can give unique perspectives to students in these fields. It is fitting that his valuable contributions are recognized with this appointment’.
