Leiden University champion of the Benelux in programming contest
On October 19, the annual Benelux Algorithm Programming Contest took place in Nijmegen. The team ‘git merge -s octopus solution cup’ of Leiden University was the only one to succeed in solving all the problems. They became champion of the Benelux and ensured their place in the championship of Northwest Europe.
Glorious victory
Ludo Pulles, Reinier Schmiermann, and Pim Spelier, mathematics and computer science students, won the competition with flying colors. Of the fifty teams from Dutch universities and colleges who competed in the contest, they were the only ones who managed to solve the twelve problems within five hours. A team of Utrecht University was able to solve nine problems and stayed in second place.
The tasks were served as a series of algorithmic problems and puzzles. The subjects ranged from paying an amount with as few coins as possible to setting up an exhibition with historical vases.
World Championship in Moscow
With the victory, the team qualified for the championship of Northwest Europe in Eindhoven. If they can win the championship of Northwest Europe, the team will also qualify for the World Championship which will take place in Moscow in June 2020.
