Vincent Bakker wins second prize in Leiden University’s Thesis Award

During this award ceremony for alumni op Saturday, 10 February 2018, Vincent Bakker was awarded second prize in Leiden University’s 2018 Thesis Award. These prizes are made possible by the Minerva Reünisten Fund Year 1957/1961/1965, incorporated into the Leiden University Fund (LUF). His thesis supervisors were Dr Olaf van Vliet and Dr Alexandre Afonso.

Bakker’s thesis has already won two prizes. In October 2017, he won the prize for best thesis from the Political Science and Public Administration Research Master’s and, in January 2018, went on to win the prize for best thesis from the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Vincent Bakker graduated cum laude in 2017. He wrote his thesis as part of the Political Science and Public Administration Research Master’s. Bakker researched the effectiveness of socio-economic policy with regard to employment and labour market participation. As part of his research, Bakker compared OECD data from seventeen countries for different policy areas. This reveals the effect of the individual measures.

He is currently working as a PhD student at the Department of Economics at Leiden University.
